Welcome to the DWPs Tabulation Tool.
This Tool allows you to download National Statistics to your requirements. This facility is available for National Statistics on:
- DWP Benefit Caseloads
- DWP Benefit on and off flows
- Employment Programmes
- National Insurance Contributions & Qualifying Years and Second Tier Pension Provision (taken from the Lifetime Labour Market Database (LLMDB) or L2)
- National Insurance Number Allocations to Adult Overseas Nationals entering the UK
Some time series tables which also use a subset, bring up a different table from that selected by the user. In this instance, the figures and titles within the displayed table are correct, but relate to the subset displayed in the title, rather than the subset selected. For example, the user selects a subset table for REGION "North East" but the resulting table contains the title "Region = Unknown". In this case the table is correctly showing numbers for the "Unknown" region.
Benefit Caseloads:
There are two main sources of benefit caseload numbers:
- The best statistics to use are sourced from the Work and Pensions Longitudinal Study (WPLS). These data are based on 100% of claimants and cover information such as age and gender of claimant, duration of their spell on benefit and geographical locations of claimants.
- If you require more detailed breakdowns specific to one benefit (for example type of JSA in payment) you may need to rely on our 5% sample data which has more detail but less comprehensive coverage.
Please use the WPLS data first, and only access the samples if the breakdowns that you need are not available on the WPLS. DWP recommends that, where the detail is only available on the 5% sample data, the proportions derived should be applied to the overall 100% total for the benefit. Benefit Flows Data:
A full time-series of flows figures is now available from the links below. These Tabulation Tools contain a flows time-series from August 1999 to August 2010 and will be updated each quarter. The usual "one-click" table regarding Pension Credit is also available.

Information Directorate have withdrawn the Vacancy Tabulation Tool from the DWP website. Users can access National Statistics on vacancies notified to Jobcentre Plus via the NOMIS site.
National Insurance Contributions & Qualifying Years and Second Tier Pension Provision:
This Tabulation Tool provides the latest estimates taken from the Lifetime Labour Market Database (L2) on people who have paid National Insurance contributions since 1978/79 and information on membership of contracted out pension schemes and SERPS/S2P membership since the introduction of contracted out schemes in 1978/79.

National Insurance Number Allocations to Adult Overseas Nationals entering the UK:
Statistics are based on adult overseas nationals registering for a National Insurance number for the purposes of work, benefits or tax credits.
